WEEK-END FIRES
CITY AND SUBURBAN OUTBREAKS SEVERAL MINOR BLAZES Shortly after 8 o’clock on Saturday evening fire broke out in an unoccupied house at the corner of Tuperiri and Lewin Roads, One Tree Hill. The Remuera and Parnell Fire brigades confined the damage to the kitchen, which was gutted. The house, which was furnished, was owned by Mr. R. S. Jones, of 44 Symonds St. A fire in a corrugated iron workshop in Point Chevalier Road at 1.30 am. on Sunday, was attended by the Point Chevalier and Western Districts brigades. The building was cwned by Mr. F. L. Carlton, of Point phevalier Road, and insured for £4OO io the Yorkshire Office. At 10.15 p.m. on Saturday the City Brigade was called out to an unoccupied house in Hobsou Street, owned b Y Mr. M. Foley, of Remuera. Damage a s confined to weather-boards and lining, which were slightly burned. The cause of the fire is unknown. The house was insured in the New Zealand Office for £2OO.
A fire, believed to be caused by benzine fumes exploding, when a gas c alifont had been left burning, broke in the bathroom of a house at 1- Park Avenue, on Saturday afternoon. The City Fire Brigade arrived -Q time to extinguish the flames before bev could damage any other part of ■he house. The building is occupied ty Mrs. M. Miller.
