MORRINSVILLE NEWS
Visitors from the Te Aroha Orphans’ Club supplemented the attendance at the monthly session of the Morrinsville Orphans’ Club. Vice-president Bro. F. W. Wilkes was chairman. The programme was as follows: Selections, the orchestra ; recitation and Irish stories, Bro. Boyle, Te Arolia; flute solo, Bro. Young; song, Bro. Blackman, Te Aroha; violin solo. Bro. Tarleton, Te Aroha; selections, orchestra; songs, Bro. Echlin; community singing, led by Bro. Fawkner; songs, Orphans’ Quartet; recitation and stories, Bro. J. F. Osborn; song, Bro. Tomlin; song, Bro. Cocks.
Indications point to Morrinsville being the first provincial town in New Zealand to have the talkies installed. Mr. F. Martin, proprietor of the Regent Theatre, has signed an agreement with an American firm and the plant, which is to cost £2,000, will be installed by September 21. Mr. R. Glover-Clark, divisional organiser of the New Zealand United Political Organisation, visited Morrinsville on Friday.^ The election of directors at the Tatua Dairy Company, Limited, annual meeting resulted in Messrs. J. M. Allen, J. Baker, W. Darrell and F. Shirley being elected. Mr. Shirley is a new member. At a subsequent meeting of directors Mr. Darrell was reelected chairman. A bonus of id on the season’s supply, equal to £1,660, was distributed. A dividend of 5 per cent, on paid-up capital was declared. Mr. T. J. Ryan was re-appointed auditor at the same salary as last year.
