STEAMER PUTS BACK

KIA ORA DEVELOPS DEFECT 300 MILES FROM WELLINGTON (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, Today. Leaving Wellington for London at 7 a.m. on Thursday, the steamer Kia • Ora sent a radio message at about midday yesterday to the owners, the Shaw, Saviil and Albion Company, saying that a defect had been discovered and that the vessel was putting back for repairs. The ship was about 300 miles from Wellington when the message was sent. She was bound for London, via Cape Horn and the Argentine, loaded with frozen meat, dairy produce and a shipment of valuable stud sheep for Argentine breeders.

The defect is not serious, but owing to the length of the run it was decided that it would be safer to repair it at once. The Kia Ora will berth at Queen’s Wharf, and the company hopes that the repairs will be completed by Monday.
