MARITIME PEACE
AUSTRALIAN UNIONS AGREE TO SCHEME SUGGESTION TO GOVERNMENT Reed. 9 a.m. MELBOURNE. Today. The fact that the maritime industry is to remain in the control of the Commonwealth Government, prompted representatives of the unions concerned to formulate a plan whereby industrial matters can in future be handled amicably, a conference of the unions agreed to a scheme embracing councils governing sectional interests, each of which will consist of three representatives of the employees and the employers, with an independent chairman appointed by the council or by the Governor-General. This plan has been submitted to the Commonwealth Government.
