ARCADIA, NEWTON
“THE BELLAMY TRIAL” “The Bellamy Trial.” the talkie which is still being presented at the Arcadia Theatre, Newton, is probably one of the most thrilling talkies made. The courtroom scenes where one hears the quick cross-examination of witnesses is most exciting, and the mystery is retained until the very end. “The Bellamy Trial” concerns the trial for the murder of Mrs. Bellamy of Sue Ives and Mr. Stephen Bellamy. Several definite pieces of evidence point to their complicity, and they admit that they were in the cottage the night of the murder. By crossexamination the lawyers try to piece the story together, but they are acquitted by the court. The question then arises: “Who committed the murder?” and this is answered in a most unusual finale. The voices of all the actors are clearly heard, and an ingenious method is used of depicting the happenings as they are told by the speakers. The Arcadia programme also includes a number of other short talkie features.
