INFURIATED STRIKERS
TRAMWAYMEN ATTACK COUNCILLORS RIOT AT NEW ORLEANS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW ORLEANS, Wednesday. There was a dramatic scene in the New Orleans Council Chamber last evening. The aeting-Mayor and four members of the City Council were attacked by an infuriated mob of tramway strikers. A police captain fought his way to their aid with a drawn pistol. The officer fired shots which wounded four persons. The riot was the beginning of wild disorder throughout the city. It was not ended until the mob had stoned and burned a tramcar and terrorised the residents.
