MAORI’S NIGHT THEFTS IMPRISONED FOR YEAR Press Association GISBORNE, W ednesday. One year’s imprisonment was imposed by Mr. P. H. Harper, S.M., today on a Maori, Rawhiri Wharehenga, aged 24 years, who pleaded guilty to 19 charges of stealing wool, horsehair, and skins, the property of Sam Ngarimu, of a total value of £B6 15s. Accused pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Evidence was given that accused visited Ngarimu’s woolshed, in the Ruatoria district, at night, and took the goods away and sold them. The total quantity of wool stolen weighed about 3,0881 b. -The buyer at length became suspicious, and communicated with the police. Tho magistrate said accused had a bad record. On the first two charges he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, in each case, the sentences to be cumulative. On the other 17 charges he was convicted and discharged.
