KAIKAKU’S HUNT CUP FABRIANO WINS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The Canterbury Jockey Clud’s meeting continued, today in fine weather. Tlie course was good and the attendance was large. Results: HUNT CUP Of £250; about 2i miles. 2—KAIKAHU, 11.9 1 1— BiRKBECK, 11.9 2 S—TARAMOA, 10. S 3 _ All started. Won by 1J lengths. Time, Leaving the straight Kaikaliu led Sea Boy, Taramoa and Birkbeck, with Mataipuke last. Kaikaliu still' had charge down the back, but at the first of the kennels double swerved badly, and a little further on Birkbeck ran to the front. Birkbeck led over th Q second to last fence from Kaikahu, Sea Boy and Taramoa, but at the last obstacle Birkbeck slipped on landing and lost liis advantage. Kaikahu then took charge and came on to beat Birkbeck by two lengths. Taramoa was 10 lengths away third, and then followed Sea Boy and Mataipulie. V/OOLSTON HANDICAP Of £250; 0 fur. 11—GLENROWAN, 9.2 1 S—TARANTO, 9.13 .. 2 2 RED BOA, 10.4 .. 3 All^ started. Won by a nose. Time, When the course proper was reached Taranto was showing the way to Lucky Bag, Note, The Dove and Grand Acre. Taranto was in front at the half distance, but Glenrowan finished very fast and got up in the last stride to win by half a head. Red Boa was half a length away third, a head in front of Bailiff. Then followed Glvn Dhu. BEAUFORT STEEPLES Of £500; miles 2 FABRIANO, 9.12 . 1 4-DUBIOUS, 10.5 2 3 GLENDOWIE, 11.5 3 Scr.; Kaikahu. Won by a length. Time, 5.19 2-5. Dubious went to the front from Young Thurnham, Matu anti Fabriano, but passing the stands the order was Dubious, Young Thurnham, Matu, Fabriano and Glendowie. Racing to Cutts’s Dubious and Matu were showing the way to Fabriano, and this was the order at the mile post. Matu and Dubious were together at the first of the kennels double, where Fabriano lost ground. At the second sod-wall Matu came to grief and this left Dubious and Fabriano clear of Young Thurnham. Dubious was first over the second to last fence, but before reaching the final obstacle Young Thurnham began to close up. However, he seemed to get on to the heels of Dubious a little further on and fell heavily. Dubious was first over the last fence, but Fabriano finished best and wore his rival down to win by a length. Glendowie was 100yds a wav third.
