STALLED HIS ENGINE

: INTOXICATED MOTORIST . FINED £2O LICENCE ALSO CANCELLED Stalling his engine in Queen Street. George Daly was found by ‘ an investigating constable to be } unfit to have control of a motor- ? car. He pleaded guilty at the ‘ Police Court this morning to being intoxicated in charge of a motorcar, and was fined £2O. His driving licence was cancelled for 12 months. Mr. Moody appeared for Daly, a tunneller, aged 39, and entered- a plea of guilty. He also admitted that ‘accused had no driving licence, explain—ing that he had held one, but that it had lapsed. , “Daly recently arrived from the King Country where he had been engaged on tunnelling work,” said Mr. Moody. “He bought a car for £3O deposit. He has been drinking since his arrival in town, but was not seriously intoxicated. No damage was done and Daly was just driving to a garage to leave his car for the night. He will go back to the King Country immediately." In the opinion of Sub-Inspector McCarthy Daly was not exactly drunk, but was suffering from the effects of liquor. He had been warned on Sunday and then his car had stalled in Queen Street and he had not been able to start it again. "I think it would be the best thing if he went back to the country, as his companions are not those that a. decent man would wish to have about him,” added the subdnspector.

0n the charge 6t having no driving licence Daly was convicted and discharged. . ‘
