WAIKATO CLERIC’S DECISION (Frown Our Own Correspondent) ‘ HAMILTON. Monday. ‘ A sensation was caused In Ham- \ llton soclal and ecclesiastical ‘ circles today by the announce- 1 meat that the Rev. H. E. Jones. 1 who recently resigned from his position of Vicar of Frankton, had applied {er admission to the Pres. byterlan Church. Mr. Jones made application to the Waihato Presbytery and has been accepted. although he cannot be admitted formally as a minister of the church until the next meeting of the General Assembly in March In the meanwhile Mr. Jones has received an appointment under the Home Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church. ‘ Mr. Jonesgave as his reasons for Joining the church the appeal the democratic government of that church made to him. and the tact that he found that his theological views were in line with those of that denomina~ tion. Rev. Horace Edwyn_.lones_has been prominently in the public eye lately in connection with the William Morrison case and took charge of the young Scotsman after he had been released .trom prison for vagrancy by order of the Minister of Justice. A few weeks ago he resigned his charge 01 St. George's. Frankton. owing to the immense debt on the parish, which found difficulty in finding his stipend. At the time this reason given by Mr. Jones was hotly disputed by the churchwardens. Educated at Durham University, Mr. Jones was engaged in social welfare work in England for several years. being organising secretary of the Waits and Strays Society. Before succeeding the Rev. Frank Harty at Frunkton. Mr. Jones was vicar of Raetihi. Bulls and Landon, having come to New Zealand in 1923.
