FEATHERS OF FLAME ON MIDNIGHT-BLUE BACKGROUND—The only person who remained unmoved at the spectacular demonstration in Washington on the evening of Independence Day was the stolid gentleman who is astride the stone charger in the foreground. Many of the historic statues in the grounds of the Capitol were brightly illuminated* The obelisk in the middle distance is the Washington Monument. The display was attended by President Hoover and his wife .
