Here is a photograph illustrating the start of the Mexico City 5,000-metre race. There were 947 runners on their marks when the starter’s pistol said “go” on June 10, when this annual event was run off, through the streets of the Mexican capital, and over 900 of the contestants crossed the finishing line.
