RACE AGAINST TIME
THRILLING SHIP FIRE After a 12 hours’ race to harbour in a burning trawler, the crew of the Pointer reached Aberdeen in safety. The Pointer was Ashing 70 miles north of Aberdeen when the mate discovered that the hunker coal was ablaze. The pumps were brought into action and water played on the flames, but fumes prevented the fishermen from getting at the seat of the fire, and as the trawler raced to port the flames were nearing a part where GO tons of coal were stored. The boat reached Aberdeen with only minutes to spare. Aberdeen firemen, in gas masks, were engaged for two hours before the fire was mastered.
