HEAD STRUCK POLE

MAN SEVERELY INJURED Travelling up Queen Street on the rear platform of a Dominion Road tramcar, Mr. Colin G. Smith leaned out and struck his head against the centre-pole near the Wellesley Street intersection. The tram was travelling slowly, but the impact was severe and he was knocked out of the car. He was unconscious when picked up and was rushed to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. He is reported to be in a critical condition and is still unconscious. Mr. Smith, who is a son of Mr. W. Smith, of Te Kuiti, lives at Courtville Flats.
