FIRST YEAR’S WORK
NORMAL SCHOOL’S SUCCESS Formed a year ago last month, the Auckland Normal School Parents’ Association reviewed the first 12 months of activities at the annual meeting last evening. Mr. A. L. Bayliss presided. The association’s finances were shown to be in a sound condition, with a nominal credit balance of £l3O. The school concert last year had produced £B7, and £1 for £1 subsidy had been received from the Education Board.
According to the report the management had considered several schemes for the benefit of the school or training college. At present the grounds were in an extremely rough state, and until the Education Department completed the levelling work on the area between the school and the college, sports grounds could not be laid out.
Mr. Bayliss remarked that the School had an environment possessed by no other primary institution. When the grounds were beautified and laid out in playing fields, he said, Normal School would be a model institution. The danger to children crossing Disraeli Street and Gillies Avenue from motor traffic was also commented upon, it being stated that both the City and Mount Eden • Councils had agreed to erect warning signs. A good reference library had been established, the report added, and the headmaster, Mr. E. V. Hudson, had been authorised to purchase books to the value of £SO.
Officers were elected as follow Patron’ the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. M.P.; vice-patron, Mr. E. H. Potter: president, Mr. A. Burns; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. 11. G. Cousins and 3D. M.
