BIG HOUSE BURNE
FIRE IN CHRISTCHURCH UNOCCUPIED FOR SOME TIME Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. A large wooden residence of 10 rooms in Belvue Avenue, Papanui, was badly damaged by tire this evening. Only the prompt arrival of the brigade saved the building from destruction. Four rooms were gutted. The house had been unoccupied for some months, and the available evidence suggests that the fire originated within the house. There is no other indication of incendiarism. The building, which is owned by Mr. .T. A. Veitch, of Fendalton, is insured in the Liverpool and London and Globe Office for £1,200. INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED NEIGHBOUR HEARD FOOTSTEPS IN HOUSE FLAMES BURST OUT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. It is now believed that incendiarists caused the fire in the empty dwelling at Papanui yesterday evening, as a neighbour heard footsteps iu the house three minutes before the fire, which came out with a burst of flame.
