SOLDIERS “SOLD”
SETTLED ON UNSUITABLE LAND JUDGE’S CONDEMNATION MELBOURNE, Monday. Mx'. Justice Pike has completed his inquiry into soldier settlements on behalf of the Commonwealth Government. His Honour severely criticises the State Governments for buying land unsuitable for settlement by soldiers, who he says have not the slightest chance of making a success on it. The report also condemns the political interference associated with the administration of soldiers’ holdings. The Commonwealth Government to date has lent £35,000,000 for soldier settlements.
