PIG STOPS TRAIN

TWO WHEELS DERAILED ACCIDENT TO OPUA EXPRESS (Special to THE SUKJ WHANGAREI, Today. A wandering pig held up the Cpua express for nearly a-quarter of an hour on Saturday afternoon. The two leading bogey wheels of the locomotive were derailed, but no damage was done. When the express was between Whakapara and Waiotu at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the pig trotted out of the undergrowth on to the line, disregarding the fact that the locomotive was bearing down on it. The animal stubbornly refused to leave the line, and before the train could pull up the cowcatcher struck it and knocked it squealing and expiring off the permanent way. The force of the impact lifted the two bogey wheels off the rails. There was a delay of 12 minutes before they could be replaced.
