INDOOR BOWLING

FRIENDLY SOCIETIES TOURNEY SATURDAY’S PAIRS The Auckland Friendly Societies' pairs tourney was continued on Saturday last when five rounds were played, completing- the section play. The system adopted was that all teams scoring wins equal in number to lowest section winner go forward into inter-section play. In such a large tournament this has brought in 19 teams, almost enough for another tourney. As many of these players are engaged in another tourney next Saturday, and the season’s engagements do not leave a date free sooner, the inter-section play will be continued on Saturday, October 5, at 1.30 p.m., in the Ponsonby Drill Hall. The season’s engagements are as follow: —August 17 and 24, Foresters’ Pairs; August 31 and September 7, Open Full Rinks; September 14, visit to Helensville (10 teams); September 21 and 28, Singles Championship; executive visit to Avondale, Monday, August 12. Owing to clashing of dates the contemplated visit to Takapuna has been postponed to a date to be fixed later. The open tourney, which has been specially staged to enable bowling clubs and church organisations to compete, is the next thing to attract attention. Entries will be accepted from full teams or single entries. The closing date is August 15. Arrangements are being made for special evening practices at which outdoor players and others can get an opportunity to get used to the finer touch. The first of these will be held in the schoolroom of Holy Sepulchre Hall, Burleigh Street, off Khyber Pass, on Thursday evening next. The draw will be made at 7.30. At the same time the finals of the ladies’ full rink tourney (L.0.L.) will be played. Players and spectators are always welcome.
