ADDINGTON TRIALS

A FEW INTERESTING TRY-OUTS PREPARING FOR SATURDAY (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Track honours at Addington on Saturday morning were shared by Glideaway, Young Blake and Logan Park, who finished in that order after a brisk encounter over a mile and five furlongs. F. Holmes was present with Bonny Logan and Logan Chief, and these two pacers accomplished good strong work with St. Maura and Jolly Pet, two of F. G. Holmes’s team. The trestles were placed a few yards out from the rails, and the outside going was ideal. Trimmer (Bennett) had strong pace work without the hopples. He moved resolutely throughout and showed to advantage in one smart half-mile. The Logan Pointer gelding promises to be dressed in his best regalia for the Metropolitan meeting next Saturday. Golden Bubbles (McDermott) sprinted home well over the last halfmile of a mile and a-quarter essay, which was done at about a 2.21 clip. The Great Audubon mare is in nice buckle, and she showed to advantage over her favourite distance this morning. Her time was not fast, but she did her piece attractively. A Good Trial Glideaway (J. Walsh) had about a. second start from Young Blake (Tomlinson) and Logan Park (C. Dunleavy) when the tpio set out from the mile and five furlong peg. With a mile covered they were racing in close formation in the same order. In the back stretch Young Blake put in a spurt and succeeded in getting on terms with Glideaway for the run home. As the pair came into the straight they were about two lengths ahead of Logan Park. The last furlong was a hummer, and Glideaway easily held her own, to win comfortably from Young Blake, who was a narrow margin in front of Logan Park. It was fine work. Glideaway appeared to have something in hand. She in in great shape for her two-mile journey, and Young Blake is also ready to dispute the issue in the August Handicap. Logan Park was at a big disadvantage in standing up such a good pair six seconds, but he was not far away at the end. Carmel a Possibility Nelson McCormack (J. Walsh) paced strongly over a mile in saddle. He was assisted over the concluding stages by Carmel (Shaw), who went on. going a mile and a-half in all. He completed the journey in bold fashion, and looks a likely winner at the coming meeting. Maiwhariti went a mile and a-half, and shaped much better than he did on Thursday. His biggest worry is the right end of a two-mile journey. Sometimes he does it right, but often the reverse, and he is not of a reliable order. Nourmahal (McDermott) sprinted

home in capital stylo at the end of a mile and a-half run. Vesuvius (Albo.ru) led out from Native Prince (Shaw) at the mile and a-half post. Vesuvius held his advantage until the pair were racing down the back the last time. As the four furlongs was passed, Vesuvius bobbled, and Native Prince flashed past him. Vesuvius came again, and would have beaten his companion home but for another hitch halfway up the running. Native Prince did his part in workmanlike fashion. He does not possess the brilliance of the other customer, but makes up for it with his solidity. Finished Last After being- indulged in strong work over a number of circuits, Logan Chief, Jolly Pet, Bonny Logan, and St. Maura came up the straight at a terrific bat. St. Maura finished best, and came through with a sustained run, to beat Bonny Logan, Logan Chief, and Jolly Pet home in that order. The margins of difference as the post was passed were narrow, and the item was one of the few interesting ones of the morning. Audobell (F. G. Holmes) trotted evenly over several circuits. He is in his best dress for next Saturday. Western Voyage, Tonic, and Wilma Dillon, all looking well, were produced, but were not extended in their work. Kiowa went several circuits in approved style. 1-Ie is in bigger order than he usually races in.
