NO APPEARANCE
MAORI ON CHARGE OF CATTLE THEFT ADJOURNED FOR A WEEK Robert Gage, who was ordered to come before the Supreme Court this morning for sentence on two charges of cattle stealing at Paeroa, did not put in an appearance. “There must have been some misunderstanding,” said Mr. E. H. Northcroft. “I have been instructed by Gage’s employers to represent him and I would ask that the matter stand over for two or three weeks.” Mr. Hubble, for the Crown, said that in the ordinary way he would ask that a warrant be issued, but as Gage was a Maori there was a possibility that there was some misunderstanding. His Honour: Yes, I will adjourn the case for a week. If it is found that Gage has absconded then the Crown can get a warrant for his arrest, if necessary.
