COURT OF HONOUR

MEMORIAL FEATURES FOft MUSEUM SATISFACTION EXPRESS® Complete satisfaction at the gress of the arrangements for provii ing the Auckland War Memorial Museum with a cenotaph and cour nf honour is being expressed by remS sentatives o£ the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, members of which have shown special interest in the preservation of the memorial f.? tures of the museum. An illustration in today's Sun show, the memorial as it will appear after the plans drawn up have been carried out. '"^l The court now to be formed will match the building in width—26 Mt-l and will be 90ft from front to rear It will be paved all over with precast concrete slabs 3ft square, and bor dered by a kerbing 3ft wide and lft high, covered with slabs of the same material. From the 40ft driveway in front of the museum colonnade the court will be reached by a broad flight of seven concrete steps. 116 ft wide. A similar flight on the lower side will give cess to the motor road, 60ft wide, that, has been formed round the site and below this again will be a third flight. The cenotaph, standing in the centre of the court, will be as nearly as possible an exact copy of the fam. ous monument in Whitehall, and of the same dimensions. Six bronze flagstaffs, as in the orig. inal, will be fastened three on each side of the pylon. The wreaths hung on the shorter sides will be part of the stone facing, but the third wreath, lying on the sarcophagus, will be of bronze. A pattern will be introduced into the paving of the court by laving some of the slabs diagonally within a border of others coloured a dark grey. The whole pavement will be on a slight grade to carry off rain-water. The court and its surroundings should form an admirable setting for future Anzac Day ceremonies.
