NEW SHIP SWIFTPOOL

FIRST STEAMER DESIGNED FOR NEW FUEL USE OF POWDERED COAL (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9 a.m. LONDON, Thurs. The Swiftpool is the first new steamship on Lloyd’s British register designed for world trading which will be completely dependent on powdered fuel firing. The ship was inspected by c ts at West Hartlepool. She is o' ‘0 tons, and has a length of 421 ft. i^ unique insofar as she has no alternative for the hand-fired boiler, being designeed solely to operate on the Brand system of powdered fuel. The main bunker’s capacity is 2,000 tons. The bunker has two pulverisers.

The stokehold floor is convenient to the bunkers, for breaking down slack coal. There is a reserve fuel supply overhead in the stokehold, sufficient for several hours’ steaming, with the pulverisers out of action.
