The unemployment position here has been somewhat eased this week by the provision of relief work at Papakura for 20 returned soldiers who were on the list at the local bureau of the Labour Department.
The form of testimonial to Archdeacon E. M. Cowie, whose self-de-nying work for all classes has extended in the Waikato for nearly 30 years, was decided upon at a meeting yesterday of the special Citizens’ Committee convened for this purpose. It was unanimously resolved to present the Archdeacon with a purse of sovereigns. Mr. Cowie will leave for Wellington to accept the living of Khandallali shortly.
