POLLARD CUP GAMES
DRAW FOR NEW RUGBY COMPETITION ASSISTING WEAK CLUBS Contrary to a decision made by the Rugby Union Management Committee earlier in the season, games for the Pollard Cup will be played in Auckland this year and the competition will start on Saturday. This decision \vas made at a special meeting of the committee held early this week and it was further discussed at last evening’s weekly meeting. In accordance with a suggestion made by the Ponsonby Club, which cannot enter a team in the competition, it was agreed that players from that club and other strong clubs could join weaker sides for the competition with a view to providing keener and more evenlycontested football. A further decision was to the effect that, after the first round, no further transfers will be granted. No bj r es will be allowed and any team not fulfilling its engagement will lose by default. There are 14 teams entering for the competition, the purpose of which is mainly to give senior players not selected for representative honours a chance' to keep fit and enjoy their weekly game.
