AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS Stock auctioneers report on sales held throughout the district during the past week as follow: Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, report:—During the week we held sales at Westfield, Pukekohe (cattle and pigs), W aitakaruru, and a horse sale at Pukekohe. There were full yardings of cattle and a good inquiry for all classes. Prices for stores are slightly firmer, and goodquality dairy cows and heifers continue to be sought after. Best dairy cows made £l6 to £l9 10s; good cows, £l3 to £ls 10s; second grade, £9 to £l2 10s; aged and inferior, £5 to £8 15s; best springing heifers, £l3 to £IU; good average heifers, £lO to £l2 15s; small and backward, £6 10s to £9 10s; empty young cows and heifers, £5 to £6 10s; store and boner cows, £2 10s to £5 17s 6d; cows with calves, £6 10s to £lO 10s; heavy prime fat cows and heifers, £8 to £lO 12s 6d; lighter, £5 10s to £7 17s 6d; well-bred yearling heifers, £5 10s to £7 7s; others, £3 30s to £5 ss; grown steers in forward condition, £9 15s to £lO 9s; four-year-old steers, £8 17s 6d to £9 14s; three-year-old steers, £S to £8 15s; two to three-year-old steers, £6 10s to £8; yearling steers, £4 10s to £6 ss; heavy bulls, £8 to £l2; sound young herd bulls, £7 7s to £l2 12s; other bulls, £3 to £6 10s; pigs at Pukekohe met with a keen sale. Store wethers made £1 9s to £1 13s; ewes in lam lx, £1 6s to £1 14s; store hoggets, 15s to £1 4s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports: Sales were held during the past week at Westfield, Kaukapakapa, Clevedon and Papakura; also two clearing sales. Values ruling for all classes of cattle are on a par with late rates. Dairy cows and heifers, close to profit, best. £ll 10s to £2l 10s; others, £9 to £11; backward springers, £5 30s to £8 10s; aged cows and inferior heifers, £3 to £5 ss; bulls, £3 10s to £l2 12s, according to age, breed and quality; store and boner cows, £3 5s to £6 7s 6d; yearling heifers, best, £4 to £5 17s 6d; others, £2 to £3 15s; yearling and 18-months steers, £3 to £5 17s 6d; 2 to steers, £5 10s to £5 17s 6d; 3 to 31-year steers, £7 to £S 17s 6d; 4 and 4J-yoar steers, £9 to £9 17s 6d; grown steers, In forward condition, £lO io £lO 15s. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Auckland, report having held a very successful sale on July 30 on account of Mr. Malcolm McDougall, of Pukekawa. There was a large attendance of local buyers, besides representatives of Hobsonville, Turua and Hamilton districts. Competition was very keen throughout, and a total clearance was effected under the hammer. The herd of 107, principally Jersey-Short horn cross cows and heifers, averaged £ll 6s 6d. Although the highest price of the day was only £l4 15s, no fewer than 26 cows tealised £l3 or over, testifying to the uniform quality of the herd. Fifty-four weaner Jersey and Jersey-Shorthorn cross heifers averaged £4 13s 6d, and two-years Jersey heifers made up to £lO 10s. Quotations: Young Jersey cows, £lO 10s to £l4 15s; Jersey-Shorthorn cows, £lO to £l3 10s; backward sorts, £7 5s to £9 15s; Holstein cows, £.lO 10s, £ll 10s, £l3 ss; Shorthorn cows, up to £l4 15s; backward sorts, to £9 10s; two-year Jersey heifers, £7 15s, £B, £S 10s, to £lO 10s; weaner heifers, £4 3s, £4 10s, to £5; sows in pig, 20s to 355.
