BIG MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
MANUFACTURERS’ NEW EFFORT HELPING N.Z. INPUSTRY By a portion of its activities in encouraging interest in the support of New Zealand industries, the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association expects to double its membership of 200 easily enough. Established as an important force in the community, the association continues to look for progress. About 300 manufacturers of Auckland are to receive circular letters urging the benefits of linking up with an organisation keenly alive to sponsoring the Dominion’s manufactures. The letter draws attention to the important publicity campaign conducted in The Sun by the association’s executive. “The campaign has already produced good results, and is creating a greater demand for New Zealandmade goods” the letter states. “The issue of booklets and general information is another feature, and an active part is being taken in the proposal to set up an Industries Development Board.” In its membership drive, the association has compiled a graduated scale of subscriptions. The basis of this is the number of persons employed by a manufacturer, and the scheme makes membership open to any industrial producer. Begun this weak, it should not be long before the progressive move brings expectations to realisation. Another movement is fife securing of new-, modern premises in Queen’s Arcade, with a frontage to Queen Street. Within a few mouths, the offices will be available. There will be a hall of exhibits; in it, manufacturers’ samples will be displayed in showcases. This provision will benefit manufacturers in the outer parts of the city. ENTERTAINING CLIENTS Further, there is a proposal to combine the hall of exhibits with tea and luncheon rooms, where manufacturers can met and entertain clients and friends. Under the plan, a lounge will be provided. In every way, the association’s activities have been encouraging. The public is being taught the necessity of industrial prosperity to New Zealand. But the association’s propaganda is to be extended widely. With increased membership, remarkable strides will'be possible in the urgent work. Co-operatipn, and messages to New Zealanders, are recognised to be the means by which Dominion production will be expanded. The industrialisation of the Dominion means rapid development. - The association is aware of every method to make known the cramping effect on local industry of acceptance of foreign goods, which can be made in New Zealand.
