Under the rules of the Taumarunui j Cycle Club, the road race on Saturday i resulted: —Whittaker (600 sec), 54min 30sec, 2; \\%lsh (150 sec), 56min 47sec, i 2; Robinson (150 sec), 56min 4Ssec, 3. ! Walsh’s time, 49min 17sec, was the ; fastest. For their first annual reunion, the returned soldiers of the Ohura district had a very successful evening. Mr. W. McKay presided. The customary toast list for such occasions was honoured, and numerous musical and vocal items by members of the party rounded off the evening excellently. It is intended to hold this reunion annually in future. The Auckland Acclimatisation Society has advised the Waimarino Societj T of the council's agreement to close the Wanganui River between the Victory and Matapuna bridges at Taumarunui to fishing during the coming season, power for which is being obtained from the department concerned. The question of further closing will be dealt with next year. The Auckland body expressed gratification at the way in which the Waimarino Society had showed itself willing to meet the wishes of local anglers in a move which should be for the betterment of the sport. A public farewell function to Sergeant O’Brien, who has been in charge of the Taumarunui police district for some years, is to take place on Thursday next. Messrs. S. Sarah and I. A. Webb have the matter of organisation well in hand. The King Country Gun Club conducted a well-attended shoot on the Kaitieke D.omain. the results being: No.l sweepstake: F. McFadyen 1, R. F. Holder 2. G. Geary 3. No. 2 sweepstake: F. McFadyen 1, T. Tetu 2, R. Holder 3. No. 3 sweepstake: F. J. Southee and J. Inverarity tied for first, F. McFadyen 3P, F. Vanstone 4. In the
absence of Mr. Gage, the controlling was done by Mr. J. F. Waldegrave, with Mr. Geary as referee and Mr. Southee as trapper. The ladies dispensed afternoon tea. The raid carried out on tlie hapu of the Taumarunui Savage Club by the braves of the Auckland hapu on Saturday night, was a very successful affair. Kangatira R. W. Beresford. of Taumarunui, led the defenders at the opening of the campaign, but later his place was taken by Kangatira Singer, of Auckland, who held the mere till the battle was over. Those Auckland braves who provided a really delightful evening were Savages Singer, Hogben, Baker. Garland, O’Malley, Flood. Heath, Boyle and Hayes. At the conclusion of the operations the two rangatiras exchanged hapu badges, to show the spirit of cordiality which existed between them.
