SHAKESPEARE’S TIME

LECTURE AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE “.Natural History in Shakespeare’s Time” will be the subject of a lecture to be delivered by Professor J. C. Sperrin-Johnson in the University College Hall this evening. The lecture will deal with the actual scientific knowledge of Shakespeare’s time, especially natural history, but not dealing with medicine. The period is interesting for the peculiar ideas held about animals, the garbled accounts of observations by travellers and for the folk lore of plants. Slides will be shown of quaint wood engravings from herbals, gardening books and works dealing with zoology.
