BRITISH IRON INDUSTRY

INQUIRY INTO CONDITIONS AND PROSPECTS COMMITTEE NAMED British Official Wireless Reed. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Thursday. Mr. W. Graham, president of the Board of Trade, announced that the inquiry into the iron and steel industry would he conducted by a subcommittee of the Committee of Civil Research. Tiie sub-committee would consist ot the Lord Chancellor, Lord Sankey, the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. A. V. Alexander, Sir Cecil Budd, Mr. C. T. Cranio, and Sir William Plender, and their terms of reference would be “to consider and report upon the present conditions and prospects of the iron and steel industries, and to make recommendations as to any action wnich may appear desirable and practicable in order to improve the position of those industries in. the markets of the world." Sir Cecil Budd is chairman of the London Metal Exchange. Mr. C. T. Cramp is a prominent trade unionist, and Sir William Plender is a wellknown accountant.
