Trotters Coming Back to Tracks

MAKING AN EARLY START

AUCKLAND’S SPECIAL CARD RESPONSIBLE , By ABAYDOS With the commencement of the Auckland Trotting Club’s programme for the earthquake relief fund fixture on August 31 trainers are putting in an appearance again at Alexandra Park with charges that are eligible for the various events, and yesterday morning during a brief period of sunshine there was quite a large number present. The main track was, however, not usable and while many jogged on the sand track, others were content to engage in walking exercise in the centre of the course. All the mentors are looking forward hopefully to the weather taking up quickly to give them a chance of getting their charges fit for the end of next month. Improving With Age Nella Dillon, who has been on the easy list for the- last two months, is looking bright and perky, and will be in good heart for the more solid tasks awaiting her. The Author Dillon mare is one that is improving with

age, and while she is generally looked upon as a sprinter, T. AI. Robertson’s mare will later on “show them the way to come home” over a two 7mile journey. Dangerous When Right Vanity Boy, who showed a lot of improvement earlier in the season under Alan McMillan’s care, is now under the guidance of Geo. Webb at Epsom, and while the Norminstson gelding' lias not been asked any questions since returning from Hawke’s Bay, he will not require much tuning up to be ready for August 31. In liis last start at Hastings, Vanity Boy ran quite a good race ard a repetition of that effort would make him dangerous at Epsom. A three-year-old halfbrother to Vanity Boy, claiming Great Audubon as his sire, is also receiving early tuition at the hands of Webb. Looking the Part C. G. Lee will have Tiger Salve and -Nelson. Dillon to do battle for him at the forthcoming meeting, and they are looking in nice condition. The limit of

the main trot next month will find the square-gaiter giving a number of im-* proving trotters a good start, and as he has not been up long after a lengthy holiday, the job may be too big. Nelson Dillon will not take much topping off. and providing he is not strangled in the adjustments for his solitary win of the season at Epsom, the Nelson Bingen gelding will add interest to the slow two-mile pacers’ race. May Not Be Ready H. Ivinnimoiit. who was called away to Gisborne suddenly owing to the death of his -mother, returned this week and has again taken Peter Lloyd in hand. During the trainer’s absence the Pctenvah gelding was out of commission, and lie lias freshened up with the spell. When he returned from Gisborne some weeks back, the pacer was only a shadow of the Peter Lloyd that Epsom track watchers knew previously, and while he has picked up

i lot Pince rejoining the Koval Oak stable, his trainer will have the hardest part to do to get him ready for the end of next month. Looking a Picture 1\ Gilchrist has Etta Cole looking a picture, and ready for real work when the conditions become more amenable. The racing the daughter of Petenvah experienced at Epsoni last month did her no hurt, and she has been receiving the best of attention since the outing at the Park. Etta Cole’s mission will in all probability be the two-mile trot, when she will make on effort to secure the cabinet of crystal for owner Docherty’s sideboard. The Peterwah mare can he relied upon to do her share, but there will be others in the race just as anxious to secure the handsome trophy. A Useful Pair George Mitchell, who had a good run of successes during the latter part of the season, has joined the active brigade again with Polly's Picture, Sebisca and the Ei Carbine trottai Nebraska. The first mentioned pair were in fine trim a few weeks back and George will not experience much difficulty in getting them ready for thf benefit fixture. The Prince Chile: mare failed to handle the bad' ground at Epsom, but the tough old stager Sebisca, was right at home in the heavy going and made amends foi Polly. The two-mile trot should suit the 'Harold Dillon gelding on Augusl 31. Getting Busy Again The Grey Lynn trainer. Joe Gee. wil coniine his attention for the approaching fixture on that good old trotting mare, Anseline, and since the Junt meeting, the daughter of Nut Anse has brightened up considerably. Shwill be in good shape for her traine] to commence operations for the eailj functions. Temuka, the son of Lore Roberts and Lady S., therefore halfbrother to Gold Jacket, is having ai easy time, but Joe is paying a lot o attention to the Blue Mountain King Kewpio filly, which, all going well n the interval, will sport silk in the nex Great Northern Derby. A Sound Pair L. McMahon has a wonderful polisl on Gold Jacket and the classy Gob Bell gelding will be ready to tackl- ; serious work whenever his trainer says ! the word. Torpedo Huon is also in nice trim to undergo a sound preparation, but until the tracks are suitable I the Parkes pair will not be asked to ! speed up. When they are tuned up for the real business they should get some good money for their . owner. The same trainer is putting in a lot of time with another Gold Bell pacer, and while the novice will require more time, it shapes encouragingly.
