HAMILTON NOTES
Definite steps toward the formation of a Debating Club in Hamilton were taken by a well-attended meeting of enthusiasts on Tuesday evening. The club will be under the auspices of the Workers’ Educational Association, and ■will hold fortnightly debates during the winter. The following officers were appointed:—Executive Committee: Messrs. A. B. Collier, C. F. Aberiey, J. G. Pike and C. C. Tidmarsh; secretary, Mrs. E. E. Oldham. The Waikato Diocesan Girls’ School , Board has purchased “Bankwood,” a line property of seven acres, formerly owned by the late Mr. O. R. Farrer and later by Mr. W. Goodfellow, situated on River Road about two and ahalf miles north of the Hamilton Post Office for a new school. It is proposed to convert the homestead into the administrative block where the headmistress will live. The building will be renovated anc.l altered. The school will consist of five classrooms. capable of accommodating 25 children, built in wood on the openair principle. There will be a brick dormitory for 48 pupils, with rooms for the staff and a surgery and sick room. It is expected that the new buildings will be completed by the end. of this year, and that they will be occupied early next year. The money for the project is being found by the issue of debentures, which are being readily taken up by Hamilton residents.
The builder. Mr. J. R. Simpson, made a start yesterday with the new courthouse in Anglesea Street, Hamilton.
