' FAST HOCKEY GAME FOUR GOALS IN LAST QUARTER Press Association DANNEVIRKE, Wednesday. Dannevirke scored a great victory over the Australian hockey team today, turning defeat into success in the last few minutes of a fast exhibition of hockey. The game was played in fine weather on a heavy ground. The visitors gave a good display, but Dannevirke put up a stubborn defence when the occasion demanded. The final score was 3 goals to 2 in the home team’s favour. The Australians scored first, about a Quartcjr of an hour after the game started, C. Cormie finding the net. This was the only score in the first I half, although both sides attacked in turn. On changing over, Dannevirke started with a good attack, but then slowed down and the spell was nearly half over before a great attack resulted in McPherson scoring with a great shot. The hopes of the supporters of the home side were soon dashed to the ground, for the Australians became aggressive and C. Cormie again sent in a hot shot, which beat the goalkeeper. The Australians at this stage were having the better of the contest, and looked sure to win. However, the Dannevirke players suddenly asserted themselves and provided a big crowd with plenty of thrills. There was great excitement when Karl evened the scores with a fine shot. With only a couple of minutes to go Mclntosh secured a meritorious victory for Dannevirke by scoring another fine goal, making the fourth of the match in the last quarter of an hour. The game was played at a great pace. Foreman, at centre-half, was the star performer for the winners, and played an outstanding game. Mclntosh, «mith and Earl were prominent in the forwards.

For Australia, Nettleton and Todkill were the most prominent of the backs, »nd Pulley, C. Cormie and Stephens in The forwards. The state of the ground flowed the pace of the ball down to fetiit Dannevirke.

ALTERATION IN TEAM

FIRST HOCKEY TEST Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. An alteration has been made in the New Zealand hockey team for the match against the Australians on Saturday. A. Mahoney (Wellington) replaces B. Morris, who is unavailable. The reserves are A. Cave, C. H. McIntyre and G. V. Connell, all of Wanganui.
