At the last meeting of the Manunui Town Board a tender was accepted from W. H. J. Pittams for carting a large quantity of shingle for the main highway. # * * The Ohura Rugby Union’s team which suffered defeat at the hands of the Taumarunui representatives in the match for the Carlson Cup, was entertained at dinner at the Hotel Cecil, the president of the Taumarunui SubUnion, Mr. A. E. Rice, presiding. Mr. Meecham. manager of the Ohura team, responding to the toast of his team, deplored the fact that not more interest was taken in Carlson Cup matches by other King Country teams. * * 0 Sergeant Sivyer, of the Wanganui police district, who has been transferred to Taumarunui, has had some former experience of the King Country, as he has relieved at Taumarunui on a number of occasions. Prior to serving at Wanganui. Sergeant Sivyer has been at Dunedin and Otautau, in Otago. He is said to be a very efficient officer. * * • A subscription list opened by the Mayor of Taumarunui, Mr. C. A. Boles, for earthquake relief, now totals £lB3 0s 7d. The Kaitieke County Council’s list stands at £sl 13s with donations regularly arriving. * * * In September last the late Minister of Finance promised a loan of £s> n J u to the Ohura County Council for the purpose of prosecuting necessary road work in the county. The loan has not materialised, and at its last meeting the council approved of Cr. C. 3. Fullerton-Smith and Mr. F. Laa?* stone, M.P., waiting on the Rt Hon. J. G. Coates in regard to the matter, in the hope that something may o. achieved toward securing the ve. necessary funds. The council Totea £2O toward earthquake relief, tne amount to be sent direct to the crean of the Central Fund in Wellington, a general rate of 5d in the whole countand l*d over the Ohura town district, was approved.
