WESTFIELD STOCK SALE
WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. An aggregate yarding of approximately 600 head ’of fat cattle at Westfield today met with a very keen demand, the market for ox beef showing an advance of 2s a hundred. Best ox beef made to 40s a hundred; best young cow and heifer to 35s a hundred. A feature of the ox beef offering was ;iie big percentage of heavy weight attle forward, lines of well finished. i,ig boned cattle coming from several ef the best known graziers of the province. The average quality was high. ' ompetitlon throughout was keen, prices generally showing an advance of up to 2s a hundred. Top price of the day was secured for ;i line ot 15 extra prime heavy boned teers on account B. Reed, Te Kauvhata, which made up to £lB 5s for , pen which went to R. E. Stott, Birkenhead. Fourteen medissm to heavy prime -leers, on account W. W. MeLoughlan, i’apatoetoe, made up to £l6 17s 6d. Light to medium weight cattle, on account W. Ellett, Mangere, made from fill to £ls. A line of handy weight cattle, on account of a Hauraki Plains vendor, made from £l2 17s 6d to £ls. Twenty-four well finished cattle, on account J. Tf. Eyre, Tuakau, made up to £l6 2s 6d. Twenty-four light to heavy prime steers, on account H. E. R. L. Wiley', Mauku. made from £l2 17s 6d to £l6. One truck of exceptionally well finished bullocks on account of W. J. and H. H. Thompson, Te Awamutu, made from £.16 t.. £l7 7s 6d, the Auckland Meat Company taking the most of the line. Sixteen well finished medium to heavy prime steers, on account W. Storey, Ohinewai, made from £l4 17s 6d to £l6. Twenty-three well finished steers, on account K. Clarke, AVaiau Pa, made up to Cl 6 2s 6d. A line of six mixed quality steers, on account K. Kimpton, Rrookby, saw one ►xtra prime heavy bullock go to E. Wilson, Eden Terrace, for £lB. A line of 16 handy weight steers, on account AV. Allison, Whangarei, made up to £ls 7s 6d. Well-finished steers on account the state of the late D. Cameron, Ohinewai, made up to £l6 7s 6d. A fair average quality yarding of pproximately 280 head of cows and heifers came forward, but there was a ?ood percentage of light-weight dairy 'orts. The market in this section was not quite go firm as that for ox beef, although a fairly general rise of Is a umdred was noted. There were few 'Pecial quality lines of quotable cattle I’orward, with none of the special quality lines of last week.
The calf offering was made 'up largely of small and fresh-dropped s orts. Well finished vealers were hard Jo locate and, as a result, sold at premium prices, two extra choice prime vealers on account R. Urquhart making -7 148. Runners made to £8 for a eifer on account of R. Alexander, Mangere, which went to D. Mann, jrey Lynn. Bobby vealers met with a very keen demand, exporters buying freely at from about 7s to 15s. Top price in tho cow and heifer secion was secured for a small hne of well-finished young cows, on account *£ E. Reed, Te Kauwhata. Slightly inder last week's heavy offering of fat 'heep was made up largely of mediumweight wethers. The market opened with prices practically on a par with ast week's easier rates. Mcdium'tamed well-finished wethers in the Jird dozen pens made up to 36s 9d. Teavy prime ewes made to 33s 9d.
LONDON WOOL SALES
CLOSE SLIGHTLY BETTER (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.50 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The wool sales have closed.
