LOWER SALARY SOUGHT
lEMPLOYEE’S GENEROUS OFFER l __..__ BOARD’S FINANCES CONSIDERED With a. View of assisting the luanurewa Town Board to overcome its financial difficulties, the board’s noxious weeds inspector last evening offered to have his salary reduced. . In a letter to the board the inspector said: “Knowing your board to be up against it at present I am willing to have my salary reduced from £3O to £2O per annum." Later in the evening Mr. Fawcett urged that a quantity of metal for the dump should be ordered to relieve the foreman of the necessity of having to ask' for every yard he wanted. The chairman said that the foreman had been authorised to keep 10 yards on hand. In explanation, the foreman stated that he was at present out of a supply, and owing to the financial embarrassment of the board he wanted authority before ordering a further 10 yards. In advising the foreman that “short—age of funds" sounded better than‘ “financial embarrassment,” the chairman authorised the foreman to make a further purchase.
