E. D. ANDREWS WINS SEVERAL TENNIS TITLES IN ENGLAND

Although not successful at Wimbledon, E. D. Andrews, New Zealand tennis singles champion in 1927, has been capturing several county and other titles. He won the singles at the Phyllis Club hard-court championships, defeating W. H. Powell, 5—7, 6 —4, 6 —2. He lost the doubles with Applewhaite to Powell and Hunt, but won the mixed doubles with Miss Joan Fry, beating Miss Chamberlain and Powell, 3 —6. 6 —4, 6 —2. He won three events at the Birchington hardcourt championships, beating Applewhaite in the singles. 6—2, 6—o, and the same man winning the doubles against Powell and Moss, B—6,8 —6, 6—2. In the final of the mixed doubles, partnered by Miss Steer-Watkins, he defeated Miss Pearson and Moss, 6—3, G —3. It seems probable that if he remains in England for any length of time he will yet play a more prominent part at Wimbledon than he has done on the two occasions he has appeared there. Perhaps he requires to become attuned to the Wimbledon atmosphere. which is somewhat aweinspiring for those who may be termed the uninitiated.
