Nine months ago the Franktou Ratepayers' Association in desperation wrote to the local telegraph engineer, requesting urgent provision of a telephone box in Alarama Street. The reply from the engineer was tabled on Thursday night. and informed the association that. the question would be deferred owing to more pressing claims. "Speedy," was the sarcastic remark of a. nlember. The association clecided again to protest at the department's inaction. * * ’8 A “Boost Hamilton" movement was suggested by Mr. P. Allsop. Various suggestions for advancing the industrial and social attractions of the town were made. It is aimed to interest all business people and other organisations, and to form a big central committee to con—duct a. publicity campaign. The whole scheme will come before a special meeting of citizens shortly.
The request of the Te Rapa. Te Kowhai and Horotiu settlers that a porter be retained at the Te Rapa station was declined by the general manager of railways, Air. H. H. Sterling. \vhen a. deputation waited on him in Hamilton yesterday. Mr. Sterling said the business was not sufficient to warrant a. porter being kept at the station. I
