FAILED TO REPORT
GAOL FOR PROBATION BREACH Bad reports from the probation officers at Ashburton and Christchurch coupled with the, evidence of the Auckland probation* officer, resulted in Norman Bruce Stewart being gaoled for a breach of his probation this morning. Stewart, aged 32, was said by Mr. Campbell to have been placed on probation for three years at Ashburton in March. The charge lie had been convicted on was one of false pretences. Stewart hud been ordered to make restitution of £59. He had paid off part of that money but had g.ot beyond the control of the probation officer and was transferred to Christchurch. There the officer had written to him several times, finally getting a reply from Coromandel. He had been arrested by a Christchurch constable who had recognised him walking down Queen Street.
Stewart was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, to bo followed by 12 months* reformative detention.
