OYSTERS—9a.m.
Sale of Shellfish Begins T omorrow GOOD QUALITY THIS YEAR Auckland oysters—9 a.m. tomorrow morning. A queue will be formed shortly before that hour outside the depot near the Western Wharf. And such oysters this year! Luscious, fat things—ever so much better than those of last season. Experts in the oyster “industry” consider that there will be sufficient to supply the demands of the public this year, and that there will be no shortage. For the past few weeks pickers have been busy on the beds throughout the Hauraki Gulf, and the, result of their labours is stacked in the sheds at the depot. Each sack contains between - 80 and 90 dozen shellfish, but it is expected that when the public raid (at so many penee a dozen) begins tomorrow morning, the sacks will quickly be depleted. An official explained this morning that the past season has been a good one for the oysters, and they have fattened nicely. He also remarked that an oyster three weeks after it has been plucked from its rock is much more palatable than the freshly picked one, providing it has been kept in a cool spot. From the day the sale of oysters begins, supplies from the beds will arrive at the depot three or four times a week.
