BREWERY AT OTAHUHU

COUNCIL APPROVES PLAN QUESTION OF POLLUTION A new independently-operated brewery is to be established at the corner of Great South Road and Baird’s Road, Otahuhu, and it is expected to market the products before Christmas. Permission to erect the brewery and lay a cast-iron pipe-line along the Great South Iload to the Tamaki River was granted by the Manukau County Council at a meeting yesterday. The building inspector reported that the plans were in order and he understood that an application would be made to the Harbour Board to allow the discharge of waste products into the Tamaki River. A request that the interests of residents on the foreshore of Buckland’s

Beach should be considered, in view of possible nuisance from the drainage, was made by Mr. J. S. Dickson. The chairman, Mr. F. M. Waters, said that only dirty water from the washing of casks would be discharged and the Harbour Board would take care against pollution of the foreshore. The Health Department would be a further guard against any nuisance. The issue of the permit for the building and drain was approved.
