MISSIONARIES RELEASED
HELD BY CHINESE BANDITS Advice that a party of English missionaries and a child captured byChinese bandits early last month are safe in Yen-Cheng has been received by the Rev. H. S. Conway, of the China Inland Mission, from the mission headquarters in Melbourne. A cable from Shanghai received on June 9 stated that Air. and Mrs. Ernest Weller, Air. and Airs. John Walker and child, and Aliss Brook had been seized by bandits during a raid on Shekichen, in West Honan, about 190 miles north of Hankow, when many Chinese were massacred and much looting done. The party was held for ransom, but it is not known whether this was paid or they were released with military assistance.
