Bank of New Zealand Manager to Retire
MR. HENRYS CAREER SUCCESSOR ANNOUNCED Over 48 years’ service in the various branches of three banks has been the experience of Mr. John B. Henry, manager of the Auckland branch of the Bank of New Zealand, whose approaching retirement is now announced. Thirty-four of those years have been spent in the service of the Bank of New Zealand. A well-known and very populai figure in banking and business circles Mr. Henry’s retirement will be viewee with regret by the business commun ity. His association with the bani ■will terminate on September 30, and a few' weeks later, accompanied bj Mrs. Henry, he will leave on a year’s holiday visit to the Old Country. He
will then return to reside permanently in Auckland where he has made many friends. Born at Macduff, Banffshire, Scotland, Mr. Henry commenced his banking career as a youth in the North of Scotland Bank on April 11, 1881. He was apprenticed to the bank for four years, and during that period showed such aptitude that, at the age of 17, he was appointed accountant in the Macduff office of the bank. In 1887 he was elected associate by examination of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland. In August, ISSB, Mr. Henry joined the Colonial Bank of New Zealand in London prior to its absorption in the Bank of New Zealand. In 1891 he ■was transferred to New Zealand and attached to the head office staff at Dunedin. During the two succeeding years he was transferred to Oamarn, Wellington and Palmerston North. When the absorption took place in 1895 he entered the service of the Bank of New Zealand, in which he has remained ever since, receiving successive appointments as manager at Hokitika, Greymouth, Masterton and Wellington, also occupyipg the position of inspector at head office, Wellington, for two years. Mr. Henry was appointed manager at Auckland six years ago. MR. HENRY’S SUCCESSOR It has been announced that Mr. Henry’s successor at Auckland will be Mr. F. W. Dawson, chief inspector at head office, Wellington. Until four or five years ago Mr. Dawson was assistant manager at Auckland, having previously managed the Napier branch of the bank. From Auckland Mr. Dawson was appointed assistant manager of the London branch, where he stayed two years returning about two years ago to take up his present position as chief inspector at Wellington.
