HORTICULTURE DIPLOMAS
GUILD TO BE FORMED With the object of assisting the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture in ail its aims and objects, especiallj' on the educational side, a meeting of diploma holders of the institute in the Auckland district is to be held tomorrow to consider the formation of a diploma holders’ guild. An informal meeting of diploma holders was held last week, when Mr. G. A. Green. Dominion organiser of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. was asked to convene a further meeting. What lines the proposed guild will take will depend largely on tomorrow’s meeting. Another object of its formation will be to assist students studying for the diploma. The decision of tomorrow’s meeting will be conveyed to the other centres throughout New Zealand, where guilds may be formed also. There are at present about 120 diploma holders throughout the Dominion. In the past a student has been able to gain a diploma by putting in 20 years’ practical work, or by j passing an examination after 12 years' practical work. In the future, however, admission to the diploma will be by examination only. Students will be required to study for two years for a junior certificate, two years for a senior certificate, and a further two years—six years in all—for the diploma. At present there are approximately j 80 students studying for the diploma. , Mr. F. H. Leonard. X.D.H. (N.Z.), will preside at tomorrow s meeting. |
