MORE SYDNEY FRUIT FEWER HOTHOUSE GRAPES The Marama brought more Sydney fruit—oranges, passion fruit, pines and mandarines—today, and some offerings will be made at the City Marts in late sales. No steamer will reach Auckland from Sydney next week. Local fruits are in good demand, and there is no important change in prices. TJOTHOUSE grapes have shortened ■ B " L in supply. Lemon prices are still low. Repacked bananas are being sought at lato rates. The vegetable market is well supplied with cabbages and swedes. There is a good tone in the inquiry for most lines. The price of Tasmanian potatoes in Sydney was increased today £2 a ton, making the wholesale price £2O, compared with £7 this time last year. The “Sun” newspaper, in commenting on the matter, says: Tasmania and Victoria are at present supplying the whole of the Commonwealth and unless the Federal Government removes the embargo on the importation of New Zealand potatoes famine prices are likely to rule here until toward the end of the year. WHEAT PRICES LEAP CANADIAN PRAIRIE DROUGHT (Australian and "N.Z . Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9 a.m. CHICAGO, Monday. Continuance of the drought, and hot weather on the Canadian prairies, forced wheat upward nearly nine cents a bushel on Monday. Prices.—July, 1 dollar 37 7-S cents; September, 1 dollar 421 cents; December, 1 dollar 473 cents. The Bureau of Agricultural Economics announced that iit believes that the reduction of 68,000,000 bushels in this year’s domestic wheat crop, under that of last year, as indicated by the Federal estimates, may nearly offset the increase in the carry-over of old grain, while the relatively low prices for wheat, together with the shortage of food grains in Europe, is stimulating the movement of last year’s record supplies. Ilecd. 0 a.m. WINNIPEG, Monday. Reports from the wheatfields state that some sections of the prairie provinces are near ruin, lacking moisture. Wheat prices jumped 11 5-8 cents a bushel on Monday, establishing record levels for the present season.
