Many Still Keen to Carry Talk On
ADDRESS-IN-REPLY BUDGET WILL BE EARLIER (2 HE SUN'S Parliamentary RcporterJ PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Monday. Although it has been prophesied that the Address-in-Reply debate will end tomorrow several Jeremiah-like heads are being shaken in the lobbies, for several Government and Independent members have expressed a desire to speak, and some Reform members wish to reply to attacks made upon the party during the progress of the present debate. It was hoped at the end of the week that the debate would end tomorrow, but some say now that the debate will not end till Thursday. Mr. W. J. Broadfoot will resume the debate tomorrow, and will be followed in the Government ranks by Mr. J. A. Macpherson (Oamaru). Mr. A. M. Samuel (Thames) is anxious to get at Mr. D. McDougall (Mataura), and probably will seize the first opportunity to speak. Then Mr. D. Jones (Mid-Canter-bury) is on the lookout for the Hon. H. Atmore, the Minister of Education, who probably will speak. The useless debate, therefore, probably will be prolonged. It is expected M*ai the Budget will be brought down earner this year than it was last year. It was submitted to the House on August 7, but it is expected that, the Prime Minister will release the financial statement within three weeks. Cabinet met this morning and discussed legislation, putting the finishing touches, according to Sir Joseph Ward, on several Bills.
Labour will not speak again during the Address-in-Reply debate, but this fact does not seem to have made any difference to its length.
