GAOL FOR THEFTS FROM LAUNCHES MANY TIMES CONVICTED Admitting that he had stolen from launches on the harbour and that he had converted a dinghy to his own use, Tu Taaka, aged 27, was sentenced at the Police Court this morning to 12 months’ imprisonment. 'JpAAKA was charged with converting to his own use a dinghy valued at £5 and belonging to Charles Percy Hanson. He also faced three charges of theft from the launches Betty M and Leow, the result of his depredations being goods valued at £54 14s. The charges were reduced to theft so that they could be disposed of summarily. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, Taaka was out on licence. He had sold various goods he had stolen from launches, but the greater part had been recovered. “He has a long list,” added the chief-detective. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: He seems to have done nothing but thieving.
The sentence was of six months’ imprisonment on each of two of the theft charges, the terms to be cumulative.
