BRIGHT ANNUAL FUNCTION I HELD BY TAKAPUNA ORPHANS’ CLUB • |« MUSIC AND DANCING The ladies’ night of the Takapuna i Orphans’ Club is an event eagerly ! < looked forward to each year. Last ; , evening’s function was well up to the I high standard of previous years, the i ' Picturedrome, Milford, being filled i almost to capacity. Mr. W. Blomfield, j president of the club, occupied the j cliair, and was supported by officials I and members of other Orphan Clubs j in and around Auckland. A first-class programme was con - j tributed to by Miss Laura Walker, Miss Ida Walker, Miss Kathleen Conway. Mr. Dan Flood, Mr. V. LAND AND SURVEY EFFORT Branches of the Lands and Survey j Department in Auckland recently forwarded a contribution of £36 to the earthquake relief fund. As a further effort, a bridge and 500 evening was held in the Lewis Eady Hall on Monday, an additional sum of £22 being ! 'raised, and forwarded direct to the Mayor of Nelson for immediate use. The hall was well filled with the staff and friends, and among those present was Mr. Campbell, Commissioner of Crown Lands for the North Auckland district, who was accompanied by his wife. Mr. Campbell presented the prizes to the successful players. The p.rizes, and nearly all of the supper, was given by the staff and friends, and •the arrangements were in the hands of a committee consisting of Misses Muir, Weight, Taylor, Pirritt, and Mellsop, and Messrs. Howlett, Hume, and Downard.
