The fact that the Mayor of Christchurch is tho Rev. J. K. Archer was responsible for an amusing little incident in Canterbury hockey. Recently the Varsity Hockey Club was lined. th© Canterbury Hockey Association, us for playing an unregistered player. It had been found that the name Archer appeared on the list of players for the club in one match, without Varsity s having registered such a player with the association. The explanation was received by the association. It was r>iaver was named Mair, and he had been‘duly registered. But his ninh-mates called him Archer. and that nickname was used inadvertently on the team list. The fine was remitted.
