GROOME NEW CHAMPION
CLAY BIRD SHOOTING Press Association IS'APIEK, Thursday. The New Zealand clay bird championship shoot at Longlands, .Hastings, today was won by Groome, of Otane, president-elect of the New Zealand Gun Clubs' Association. The winner was the only one of 62 competitors who included seven ex-champions, to break the full 21 birds. Seven others, however, secured 20 kills. Groome takes €6O. G. W. Beard (Kimbolton), E. IX McLachlan (Masterton), A. N. Turner (Christchurch), H. Greenali (Timaru). J. Mills (Hastings), T. S. Harrison (Lower Hutt), and H. A. Quatemain (Hamilton), divided second money, €l4O. Beard won the shoot-off for the trophy for runner-up. A sweepstakes was divided by J. Ormond, E. Arnst, G. )V- Beard, J. Connolly, I. o. Watkins, G. A. McCulloch 11. E. Knight, I. A. Cripps. It. Aritterson, IX Fraser and W. McCullough. all of whom secured the possible in this event. . Hammond and Turner (Christchurch) presented a special trophy for which extra entrance iees (amountin— tu no 10s) were charged, and will be handed to the earthquake relief fund. Anderson took the trophy after shooting 21 birds.
